[net.micro.pc] Wanted : A 19200 bauds serial adapter for the IBM PC

ype@cernvax.UUCP (ype) (04/11/85)

Here,at CERN ,we have made a low cost 68000/VME box which
has most of the High Energy Physics I/O capabilities and
which runs the related 'standard' software. This box, called
"VALET Plus",uses (through a serial connection) almost any
personal computer as user interface and peripheral server.

Such configurations are already running with APPLE MacIntoshes
and HEWLETT PACKARD 200 Series systems.

In order to integrate VALET Plus with the IBM PC (to which
I am a novice) an asynchronous communication adapter able
to run at 19200 bauds on the PC-XT and AT would be required.

Anyone aware of the existence of such an interface, please
send information to :

The standard IBM serial adapter using the 8250 UART, as well as the
serial ports on expansion boards such as AST SIXPACK can be programmed
for 19200 and 38400 bits per second.

Actually running at that speed requires a software package with carefully
written interrupt driven input routines to avoid loss of incoming data.
