Has anyone gotten the C-Kermit which came across the net some months ago to work ? Here are the particulars: 1. I use Kermit-MS 2.26 (July 26, 1984) on my PC. 2. I have been using UNIX Kermit 3.1(0) (8/24/84) on UNIX System V. 3. I tried C-Kermit 4.2(030) Prerelease #2, 5 March 85. I find that the packets from C-Kermit are somewhat different. Kermit-MS and C-Kermit just throw away each other's packets. Can anyone offer some constructive advice ? There is a Tower of Babel problem with Kermit. Some versions default to 8 bit transfers over the serial line and others default to 7 bit transfers and use 8th bit quoting. They are in fact two separate protocols that just happen to be called Kermit! The C-Kermit on Xenix works just fine with the Kermit part of Professional-YAM, which works just fine with Kermit on The Source and IBM mainframes. But, MS-Kermit needs to be set into some other mode to talk to THEM. The solution is to get both ends working the same way. Sorry I can't remember what the incantation was, but it does work (I used MS-Kermit in testing Pro-YAM's Kermit initially.) For transferring files between Unix and MS-DOS, Pro-YAM on the PC or clone and rb/sb on Unix make a much better combination. They can use 19200 bps and/or 1kb packets for good throughput when downloading from Unix. -- Chuck Forsberg WA7KGX ..!tektronix!reed!omen!caf Omen Technology Inc 17505-V NW Sauvie IS RD Portland OR 97231 Voice: 503-621-3406 Modem: 503-621-3746 (Hit CR's for speed detect)
