Ok, one more time...
Does anyone out there know of a vi editor for the PC?
I know of all the emacs things out there but I have heard
very little about vi.

Manx sells a vi editor for the PC without the ed(1) support (since that
would require an expensive license, I suppose.)

We just got "Z" from Manx Software (Red Bank, New Jersey), which is a
fairly straight vi imitation. For the most part it is identical to vi;
a few features are missing, but the macro capability is expanded.
The missing features are:
"wrapmagin" mode - probably a few other modes too, but this one
is annoying. They DO have autoindent, which is the
other mode I use a lot.
some :commands, most notably :g/foo/s/bar/baz/
The macro capability lets you do the same thing, (so
name your macro "g"), so it's logical to leave out,
but it's a bit weird. On the other hand, the :e, :wq,
:n stuff all works fine, and :! gets you into DOS like
it should.
We've had a few problems getting wildc*rds to expand, but basically
it's vi, and we like it. (So we've renamed it "vi". The copyright
banner page flashes at startup to remind us it's still "Z".)
Cost - by itself about $125; you can also get it in a package with
their latest "C" compiler, and some "make", "grep", and related
utilities.
