[net.micro.pc] Query: 256K chips on PC motherboard

CJS@psuvm.BITNET (07/23/85)

I have (untried) instructions on how to replace 64K bit chips on a XT or
portable motherboard, which involves intalling one jumper and one IC, and
replacing the memory chips.

Did these instructions ever appear on this net? Did anyone ever try it?
Did it work?

Does anyone have similar instructions for a "regular" PC? There is much
interest among those with no slots left.

Yes, beautifully. I have used the instructions posted here to upgrade 3
portable IBM PCs (they use the XT motherboard) and 2 XTs as well. It
saves slots and works just fine. We used the "leftover" 64K chips to
upgrade a couple of PCs that lacked full memory.

Sorry, I can't help there.
