There is a company in Cambridge Mass that makes an accellerator board for the XT. It is an add-on board (no connections or modifications to the mother board) based on the 286. The user can run the XT native (not using the 286 board) or else he/she can run the 286 board (which turns the 8088 into an I/O processor). The 286 board has its own memory (up to 2 meg). Note that the board runs with no modifications to MS-DOS. The 286 board is called the AccellerATor and is marketed by Applied Reasoning 84 Sherman Street Cambridge, Mass 02140 (617) 492-0700 One person at the company to talk to is Michael Kirschenbaum. - fred mueller Note: I have no affiliation with Applied Reasoning other than having worked with many of their employees in the past.
