[] I need some help on a couple of unrelated matters: 1. I have a program which constantly switches between 80x25 b&w text mode and 640x200 b&w graphics mode on an IBM PC with a Hercules color board. The switching is done by an invocation of interrupt $10 from within a C program. However, every time the mode is changed, the monitor screen briefly goes haywire, with strange patterns appearing for a fraction of a second. Is there anyway to gracefully switch between graphics and text modes without this happening? Would detecting the vertical retrace blanking interval and performing the switch during that time solve the problem? If so, how does one detect vertical retrace? 2. A friend of mine has a Compaq portable and wishes to add a multifunction card to it. Does anyone know if the AST 6-pak+ and/or the Quadram Quadboard will fit/work in a Compaq? And more importantly, how do you open the darn thing? It looks like there is a plastic panel covering the top and back which should pop off, but the triggering mechanism is not obvious. The documentation for the Compaq says nothing about this, and local dealers have taken the attitude that a top secret clearance is needed for this information. Any help/pointers to help for either of these will be greatly appreciated. Please respond via e-mail. And thanks, as always, in advance!
