We just received the maintenance update for Xenix/AT. Since I posted an article about the problems with non-standard hard disks under Xenix/AT I feel obligated to warn people that despite the accompanying documentation problems with hard disks are not over yet. To start Xenix still does not use the vector set aside in low-memory pointing to information about the disks, they still use builtin tables in several programs. The only thing changed is that their table is now the same as the standard table from IBM, so a disk that works under DOS will now also work under Xenix, *except* that they forgot /etc/fdisk. This program is not replaced on the maintenance update. The only reason I can find for that is negligence. People that want to interface a non-standard disk to an AT under Xenix must still use patching methods as described in my previous long article about this subject. The offsets in the files have been changed however. An updated version of the article will be mailed by me to interested parties. Other things changed in the maintenance update are the C-compiler, probably bugfixes, and vi, so now one can edit files of reasonable sizes. I can not give experience with those changes yet. -- Hans van Staveren, Philips Micro Development Systems ..!{seismo|philabs|decvax}!mcvax!philmds!sater In the distant future: Hans.van.Staveren@mds.philips.nl.eur.UUCP
