[net.micro.pc] Looking for F77 compiler for PC AT

dorettas@tekecs.UUCP (Doretta Schrock) (08/21/85)

I'm looking for a compiler that provides a *full* implementation
of Fortran 77 that will run under PCDOS. It needs to be a large
model compiler that allows the use of overlays. I've been told
that only the DRI F77 meets all three of those criteria. Others
either don't provide the large model or overlays or are F77 subsets
and don't allow substrings or other features I need. I need the compiler
for porting existing large programs so just not using those features
is not practical. The problem is, I have the DRI F77 and there are
a couple of things I really don't like about it. It runs out of
symbol table space when compiling what are, for my programs, relatively
small files, for example. Does anyone know of another compiler that
might fit my needs? Send me mail and I will summarize to the net.
Thanks.

Have you looked into the new MS compiler? I've been using it for
a couple of weeks now and have been quite pleased so far...it has
no 64k segment limit which makes it one-step ahead of the xenix
c-compiler.
