[net.micro.pc] Bernoulli Boxes and Networks

frodo@wcom.UUCP (Jim Scardelis) (08/28/85)

Due to the fact that the IOMEGA Bernoulli Box uses polled
I/O, rather than interrupt driven I/O (in my opinion, a design flaw),
the Bernoulli Box is INCOMPATABLE with the IBM PC Network, and perhaps
others. The problem is a DMA conflict with the network card when the
box is used as a server disk, under periods of relativly high disk
activity (like sorting a database, and printing to a shared printer
on that server).

It is recommended that Bernoulli Boxes be used, if at all,
only as off-line backup devices on non-servers.
