I'm using an IBM PC and a Hayes 1200B with Smartcom II. When I try to use vi to edit my stuff on here, I can't get the cursor to move up and down through the text. (Until I switched from "formatted" to "direct" character processing, I couldn't get it to move back and forth either, & had to watch a new line generated for each move of the cursor, as if I had a real teletype here. I still have this problem with up-and-down motion, which means that after switching from line to line a few times, I end up with a screenful of lines out of order & have to list the article to see what I'm doing.) Various people have told me that it's supposed to be possible to get my equipment to emulate a VT100 or a VT52, but as usual there's nothing in the manual about it. Can anyone tell me what I can do to get normal cursor movement? If the answer is to get different software (I hear Crosstalk will do the job) please tell me that. Send mail if you can. Thanks. -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Judith Abrahms "The sames should stay with the sames, and {ucbvax,ihnp4}!dual!proper!judith the differents should stay with the differents." -- A. There have been a few inquiries about VT100 terminal emulation lately, so let me give you a bit of a pitch for my favorite. I have been using a "freeware/shareware" product called PC-VT for the last 7 months on my PCjr and also a PC and PCXT with very good results. It emulates a VT100 or VT102 and includes an xmodem protocol up/download utility (built in). Also allows you to create a MSDOS shell so you can perform DOS activities without having to interrupt your terminal session. Send $35 and a formatted DS/DD disk to: Mark C.
