I'm posting this for a friend who has an IBM-PC/AT. He says: "I'm interested in purchasing a tape backup unit for the IBM-PC. I would like to know if anyone has had any positive or negative experiences with particular devices on the market." Please send replies by private mail if you can; I will summarize to the net. Thank you.

Don't buy an Alloy. I bought one and: o It is very noisy, with a high-pitched whine. o The software that comes with it is very buggy. The software crashes if it doesn't have exactly 512kb of free memory, so when I want to use it I have to reboot the system without a ramdisk or installed programs. What a pain. Alloy has promised me fixes, but they never send them to me.
