One thing the previous note didn't include is that in order for the prompt t work correctly using the ANSI sequence, your config.sys file on your boot disk must have the following line in it: device=ansi.sys and the ansi.sys file that comes with DOS must be on that same disk. When the system boots, the ansi.sys file will be loaded into memory and will process quite a few escape sequences that allow screen mani- pulation in some small degree and even color changes. Refer to the DOS Technical Reference, which has all of these listed in it, for the IBM. The Compaq DOS Manual alreeady has these, so there is no need to purchase a DOS Tech Ref if you have a Compaq.
