To everyone with experience with IBM PC's and System/{34|36|38}: A friend has a non-desktop System/36 and would like to use four floppy-only PC's as terminals and to download data files for subsequent manipulation and examination using Lotus 1-2-3. If you have had experience with any of the available boards for PC-to-S/36 communication and 5251-series terminal emulation, I would be grateful for your comments, which will help us decide which product to buy. There are only a few issues: does the board conform to its advertised characteristics? Have you experienced reliability problems? Also, can a lowly /36 respond ok with as many as four PC's each running a couple of terminal or print sessions? I know of products from IBM, AST, DCA, and IDEAssociates... are there any others worth considering? Finally, how does IBM's /36 emulation board for the PC relate to the question of future IBM network compatibility in the /36 world? ** Go ahead, tell me your war stories! ** --- David Watson {genrad|ihnp4|ima}!wjh12!talcott!sesame!david {cbosgd|harvard}!talcott!sesame!david
