[ line-eater go home!! ] I am presently working on an AT running Xenix, and have a couple of strange questions that I haven't been able to find answers for: 1. Is there any way to convince the boot program to _not_ ask if I want to boot the default kernel? I want to be able to get to init without intervention from the keyboard - the first step towards auto-booting. If possible, I would like software hacks - patching /boot is fine, I can always load boot from a normal floppy if I want to boot a different kernel. Failing that, a hardware solution would do, or ... has anyone written their own boot program? 2. Assuming that a solution is available for #1 above, is there some way for software (init) to tell whether the machine auto-booted or ... ?? I have written my own init that does some messing with limits and tty modes, and would like it to be able to see if it should come up single- or multi-user. The current method is to check for a file called "/howboot" which tells it how to come up, but I don't really like this plan. (Besides, it still can't auto-boot because of problem #1 above.) 3. Has anyone written a tty driver that does editing Berkeley-style? I'd like to have ^W and ^R, for example. Does Xenix let you replace the existing tty drivers when you reconfigure the kernel? (Sorry, I haven't been able to get the documentaion on this part yet...) How about pty's? Any answers should be sent by mail, and thank you in advance. --- Jon =========================================================== Jonathan C.
