I am looking for a scientific word processing package where I can mix text and scientific notation (plus a few user-defined characters) on the screen and dump the same to hard copy. I have a fairly standard setup: PC AT (512K), Hercules monochrome display, and Epson FX80+ printer. I have heard of Volkswriter Scientific and Innovative Software's Smart Word Processor, but as far as I know these are not what-you-see-is-what-you-get processors. I would appreciate any information about and/or experience with SWP packages that anyone can share. Jim Beauchamp ihnp4!uiucdcs!uiucuxc!beaucham

I have just gotton the T3 Scientific Word Processing System. It has a very good user interface and gives you the capability of most any notation, foreign characters, chemistry structures. You can design characters as needed. Everything what-you-see-is-what-you-get. It uses the graphics adapter and IBM graphics or Epson FX80 printer. Several fonts are included such as math and chemistry. Checking the documentation reveals that they do support the Hercules board. The program is big. It requires a minimum of 512 to run. Try Superscript, it is what you see is what you get and you use it from almost any word processor. Pierre Damon University o Rochester {allegra|decvax|seismo}!rochester!ur-tut!pier

It is based upon XyWrite, from XyQuest and FYI Database here in Austin. Sorry I don't recall where Dragonfly is, but perhaps XyQuest or FYI could tell you how to get in touch with them. Nota Bene is not specifically geared toward scientific users, but it has entire keyboard and printer definitions devoted to scientific stuff, just as they do for various foreign language character sets. It is really good stuff! -- / \ Bill Crews ( bc ) Cyb Systems, Inc \__/ Austin, Texas [ gatech | ihnp4 | nbires | seismo | ucbvax ] ! ut-sally ! cyb-eng ! bc
