We are presently looking at memory expansion cards for the AT, and have come across several advertisements for a particular card from a company called "Apparat" in Denver. In the September issue of _BYTE_, they show a board with 3 Meg capability + 1 serial and 1 parallel port for only $299. We are interested in this product (especially at the price!) but have not heard anything about this company's quality or reputaion, and would like to hear any comments anyone may have, including competitive alternatives. Please _mail_ any responses, as we do not currently receive any news- groups, this one included... Which brings me to my next question: I have the 2.10.3 news source, fetched from ~uucp on ucbvax, but have been having a fair amount of trouble with it --- I managed to get postnews and inews to compile and run after a fair amount of work, but readnews refuses to run. It compiles okay, but when I go to run it, I get "readnews: killed" every time. I used the large model (-Ml) compiler, with the default stack size (4K). The machine currently has 512K memory, with 341K left after the kernel. The only processes running at the time are getty, cron, update, and my csh. Any suggestions? We'd love to be able to get real news. Thanks, Jonathan Broome ..!dual!waldo!{broome,root} or: broome@ucbvax.berkeley.edu (school address)
