I thought by purchasing a bus version of the Microsoft Mouse, I would be able to continue using both COM1 and COM2. Turns out that the recommended interrupt level for the mouse when installed on the PC/AT is the same as COM2, thus (I think) preventing simultaneous use of the mouse and COM2. I have an IBM serial/parallel card as COM1, and an AST Advantage with a disabled COM2. Is anyone familiar enough with the AT's interrupt levels and its complement of available hardware to suggest another interrupt line which I could use safely with the Microsoft Mouse? -- /Steve Dyer {harvard,seismo}!bbnccv!bbncc5!sdyer sdyer@bbncc5.ARPA

You should be able to use the mouse by setting the jumper on the mouse board to use interrupt 2 (IRQ2). I don't know of anything on the AT that will interfere. If you have more than two comm ports then they will try to use interrupts 5 and 2, 5 is usually used for a hard disk adapter, so 2 is the only free one. On another note, there are comm boards that support multiple ports on one interrupt, I don't know the brands. -- Tim Lange Engineering Business Offices 317-494-5338 Rm 120 Engineering Administration Bldg.
