I am interested in any information on software for bulletin boards/messaging systems. Specifically, is Fido a good choice for a small-scale operation? Are there any other programs which I should look into? We are doing very preliminary work on this and would like to be able to establish a bulletin board for our users. We would probably be limited in resources to a dedicated PC/XT and not-too-expensive software. Thanks in advance!

October issue of "PC Tech" magazine had a blurb in the "Tech Releases" column about 3 commercially-available BBS software systems: - Micro-Systems Software's "BBS-PC" - Modem Controls' "CHANNEL ONE" - eSoft's "The Bread Board System" I called each of them and asked for product literature. Micro-Systems Software's was the first to arrive, and also the guy I spoke to gave me a number to dialup to try it out. I did. It's not as great as 'notes', but it looks pretty good: includes 'sub-boards' which are sorta like notesfiles, keeps track of basenotes and replies, supports up/downloading files in XMODEM protocol (but not Kermit). Modem Controls sent fluffy literature. That doesn't knock them out, their product seems okay, but not worth twice as much as BBS-PC. eSoft has yet to send anything (it's been 10 days). That doesn't knock them out either: I'll be patient for a while longer. Christine King Intermetrics, Inc.
