I'm trying to use set comspec to get command.com to reload off a ramdisk under PC-DOS2.1. However, even if set shows COMSPEC=C:\COMMAND.COM and command.com is on the ramdisk, I seem to always get the message to put the command.com disk in drive A. Is this a known bug and is there a patch? Or is there a way to make all of command.com memory resident? Or am I all wet? I imagine either I'm doing something dumb or this was recognized and fixed long ago. So you may want to respond by email to avoiding boring everyone else. Thanks much, Robert Evatt AT&T Bell Labs, Allentown, PA {ihnp4!aluxz!revatt}

I think you're using the wrong keyword. If I understand what you're trying to do, you don't want COMSPEC = C:COMMAND.COM You want SHELL = C:COMMAND.COM Aaron Contorer amc543@uiucuxa

My ITT DOS (MS-DOS 2.11) manual says that the CONFIG.SYS line SHELL=path sets up COMSPEC and loads COMMAND.COM initially from the named path. Bull. Even if I define it as \COMMAND.COM I get the ``Please insert COMMAND.COM disk'' message. Anyone know a fix? BTW has anyone figured out why when I patched my COMMAND.COM to have a larger environment it stopped reading AUTOEXEC.BAT? --Brandon -- Lord Charteris (thurb) ncoast!allbery@Case.CSNet (ncoast!allbery%Case.CSNet@CSNet-Relay.ARPA) ..decvax!cwruecmp!ncoast!allbery (..ncoast!tdi2!root for business) 6615 Center St., Mentor, OH 44060 (I moved) --Phone: +01 216 974 9210 CIS 74106,1032 -- MCI MAIL BALLBERY (WARNING: I am only a part-time denizen...)
