[net.micro.pc] Qubie' - good experience

andy@sdcarl.UUCP (Andrew Voelkel) (01/23/86)

Qubie is a peripherals distributor which advertises in BYTE and such all the
time. Considering the horror stories I have heard about mail order houses I
would like to relate a very positive exerience purchasing a hard disk drive
from them.

I bought mine in May `85. It was a 20 meg for $699 which was
competitive then. I received it in a couple weeks and experienced some minor
confusion during it's installation which turned out not to be their fault.
Nevertheless the Tech Support people were very helpful.

Well, unfortunately for them and for me, it was a microscience drive,
which apparently have more than their share of breakdowns. Mine was just
gradually getting more and more bad clusters, one of which finally landed in
the File Allocation Table in December. I was chagrined and called up to bitch.
They asked me which drive it was and said they were phasing out the microscience
and would replace mine with my choice of a Tandon or CMI at no charge

I backup up my disk and sent it to them. I got the new one in about
two weeks. It is the Tandon and it is wonderfully quieter than the darn
microscience that gave me the trouble. I am quite pleased that a distributor
offering competitive mail order prices can offer this kind of support to their
customers. I would heartily recommend them to anyone.
