[net.micro.pc] PC development systems

drz@utcsri.UUCP (Jerry Zarycky) (02/06/86)

I would be interested in knowing which compilers/development systems
developers of PC software use.
I am most interested in developers of relatively large/complex pieces
of software, who have several people working on different aspects of
the same product simultaneously.
I would like to know whether utilities such as "make" are really useful,
or do they tend to produce massive re-compiles whenever a simple constant.h
file is altered.
Do you cross-compile from a large mini/mainframe, or does each developer
have his own machine? (with a central file server?)
Your personal experiences are most welcome.
Please state which compiler/package you use, or if it is a "homebrew"
development/maintenance system.
Thanks for all replies (Please mail, as I do not regularly read this
newsgroup). If there are sufficient requests, I will post a summary.
