[net.micro.pc] More Than 640K RAM on a Xerox 6064/AT&T 6300?

dw@rocksvax.UUCP (Don Wegeng) (02/10/86)

I just purchased a Xerox 6064 PC compatible computer, which I understand is
basically identical to the AT&T 6300 (both are OEM'ed from Olivetti). My unit
came with 512K RAM, and I noticed that this only uses half of the RAM sockets
on the board. Does anyone know if the rest of the sockets can be populated
to give a megabyte of RAM? One would think that some of the upper RAM
space is used for I/O, but how much? I looked at the Technical Reference
Manual, but the schematics have been reduced to the point that
they are useless for these kind of questions.

Since the Xerox and AT&T machines are the same, one would think that what-
ever applies to one also applies to the other (has anyone verified this?).
Any help that you can provide would be appriciated. Please respond by mail
and I'll summerize the results to the group.

Thanks,
/Don
