[net.micro.pc] DS BACKUP vs. FASTBACK

mdf@osu-eddie.UUCP (Mark D. Freeman) (02/07/86)

I have an 8MHz AT clone and will be purchasing a fast 30 meg. hard disk RSN.
I am currently a very satisfied Bernoulli Box user, but I don't need the extra
advantages, so I'm selling it.

Anyway, I was all set to plunk down the $180 for FASTBACK to enable me to back
up the hard disk to floppy and save the money a tape drive would cost. The
ads for FASTBACK imply that their program on 1.2 M floppies and an AT is just
as fast as and over $1K cheaper than a tape drive.

Then I saw an ad for DS BACKUP, which is not copy protected, sells for $70, and
claims to have all the features of FASTBACk and is easier to use.

Does anyone on the net use either of these two programs? I'd be very
interested in a mini-review. Post or mail, your choice.

Thanks!

do not purchase Fastback unless you get a money back guarantee.
despite their 800 tech support number, i've been on "hold" for
about a month with them trying to figure out why it doesn't run
on my 6300+ (i have not tried it on any other 6300+ machines).
also, many machines will only run in "slow mode" if their dma
chip doesn't pass certain tests run during installation.
(the developers will gladly sell you a new chip to solve that
problem!)
