Huh? Do ya? Where would you like me to stuff it? Do you mean taxidermy or what? And what does any of it have to do with the fact that you can't buy perfect records any more? C'mon fella, wash that orange and green paint out of your hair, kick your coke habit, and quit your job at the record company, there's a great, big, beautiful world out there just waiting to be had. /_\_ Bob Fishell ihnp4!ihlpg!fish

From Bob Fishell: >*** REPLACE THIS LINE WITH YOUR MESSAGE *** >*** AC T YOUR AGE *** > >---Get it? Huh? Do ya? > >Where would you like me to stuff it? PLACE THIS IN YOUR *** Now that we're having this swell grownup chat, I'll do my best to cross the generation gap that has started this intellectual debate. Bob, most punks are, well, just ordinary loveable guys and gals, just like Donnie and Marie, except with more snot. So you gotta expect flames when you stereotype people with remarks like: >> >Because the record manufacturers employ teenage punks to insert their >> >vinyl garbage into the sleeves, paying them with nothing more than >> >nickle bags of cocaine and a free supply of hair paint. or: > C'mon fella, wash that orange and green >paint out of your hair, kick your coke habit... Besides, REAL punks don't use paint. We prefer natural substances -- like bodily fluids -- especially fresh blood from Dead Cops, middle class housewives, computer nerds, and people who read net.wine.and.cheese (apologies to Dave Hitler). And cocaine's for suckers. We get high on life... -michael

Bob, From your postings regarding punks, I get the idea that you do not know any "real" punks". If you did, you would not be so quick to insult them. Sure, punks may dress different than you, listen to music you don't like etc, BUT, that does not mean they all do drugs. I know many (most) punks that do not do drugs. Maybe you would like it if we all started dressing like you. Or better yet, why don't we all wear black pyjamas (sp?) like Ho Chi Minh's army- I know a word for what happens when all of society is forced to follow the ``norms''- Facism. Punks are the Shyloks of the Eighties (Merchant of Venice - Shakespeare). Hast not a Punk eyes Hast not a punk feelings . . . . Will a punk not bleed if you cut him. etc, etc, etc. It takes all kinds of people to run the world. I respect your opinion, because you have the right to it. If a person wants to shave their head, that is there choice. You may not agree with them, but you MUST respect it as their choice. You cannot force your opinion on others. I suggest you talk to some real punks before you go calling names etc. Fill yourself in on the facts. Just because punks look different does no mean that they do not have all the rights and privalages as everyone else. Your biggest misconception is that all punks do drugs. I once knew a guy named Bob, and he did drugs, and eventually O.D.'d. Your name is Bob, does that mean you do drugs too? Chris

Fer Chrissake, all a guy does is make some crack about teenage punks (and no, he didn't say all punks do drugs, Chris, read the posting again!) and he gets all this moralistic junk poured on him. Hey Chris, if you were Polish, would you go into that kind of spiel every time you heard somebody tell a Polack joke? Lighten up, fellas, or we'll send you to net.music.punk, where you can practice your religion unmolested by occasional facetious references to yourselves. It's fun! Just ask the grateful dead folks, they know. Snarl, Jeff Winslow

I am surprised to see people sticking up for punks, since the term had always struck me as being derogatory. Here's what Webster's New World says: punk (1) n. [var of spunk] any substance, as decayed wood, that smolders when ignited, used as tinder; esp., a chemically treated fungus substance shaped into slender, fragile, light-brown sticks: the glowing tips are used to light fireworks, etc. punk (2) 1. orig., a prostitute 2. [slang] a) a catamite b) a male homosexual c) a young hoodlum d) any person, esp. a youngster, regarded as inexperienced, insignificant, presumptuous, etc. -adj. [slang] poor or bad in quality, condition, etc. punk rock [see punk (2) n.2c] a form of simple rock music, often with coarse lyrics, typically performed in a hostile, deliberately offensive way -etan

This is all quite true. It seems as though most people I know that use coke are rich yuppies or insecure adults. The 'punks' I know may be a little insulted by the world but most of them are not into the drug counter-culture. I have to thank the 'punks' (odd word choice) for removing societies judgemental eyes away from the 'long-hairs' ('hippies' or whatever). Now the punks are the 'druged-out juevinial (sp?) delinquints (sp?, I'm doing well)'. I figure there will always be a way of life that society will shit on. ( pardon my use of slang). just adding my two-cents. 'please don't dominate the rap, jack if ya got nothin` new to say ...' Now the punks are > the 'druged-out juevinial (sp?) delinquints (sp?, I'm doing > well)'. > I have to laugh ! I was sitting on the bus yesterday with a friend who is a peace activist, among other things, and part of that generation that in the sixties ironed their hair and perturbed their elders so greatly. We saw a young woman on the street with a curiously shaved hair style and a punk outfit, and she was commenting on how strange it was. I thought this was really funny, as I pointed out that in her youth she was trying to achieve the same effect, basically. the effect being, sticking a thunb in the older generation's eye, of course. Most of the punks I know dress the way they do because they completely eschew their parent's materialist values, and alot of them think that the world will probably end tomorrow (in a radioactive flash) so they are pretty nihilistic too. Some of them are violent, but almost all of them are down on drugs because that's what the materialist, dulled-out adult world is into. -- jcpatilla "'Get stuffed !', the Harlequin replied ..."
