A friend has asked me to inquire about an 8087 software emulator. He is mainly curious about the emulator included with the Microsoft C compiler, v. 3.0. He has traced its ancestry to the Intel 8087 floating point emulator. Apparently it was ported by Microsoft, so that it works under MS-DOS, but there's no documentation, and Microsoft's customer service folks have not been especially helpful. Any help unravelling this mystery would be appreciated. Oh, by the way, he is also interested in knowing whether anyone has produced a commented dissassembly of the compiler's runtime startup routine. There is some interesting stuff going on relative to the 8087 at the very least. I'm not sure whether this latter request is legit, since the routine might be considered Microsoft proprietary. Please use your own judgment on this one. Thanks, as always, in advance. -- Gary Trujillo (harvard!talcott!gst)
