[net.micro.pc] Adding a second serial port to the AST Advantage

The AST Advantage card, in its base configuration, comes with one
serial port, with an option to add a second one later.  I now find
that I need the second port, but I would like to avoid paying the
~$50 that AST charges for the upgrade kit.  Is anyone on the net
familiar with what it would take to add the port myself?  What
chip or chips I would have to add?  Other details?

Any advice you could offer would be appreciated.
