I have done the hardware modification to my XT a while back to provide the hardware reset option. I have cut the "power good" wire (which is the white color and it is the first one from the back of the XT) and inserted the single-pole double-throw push-button in the following manner: ---------------- | POWER | | SUPPLY | | | -------p-------- | | power good wire from power supply | | ___ The button schematic is internal to | | button itself. On the outside there | 3 | 2 should be three contacts: \----o | o-----\ 1 - normally open contact ------- | 2 - common contact | 3 - normally closed contact /----o o-----| | 1 2 | wire | | to | | power good wire to connector ground | | | | ----- | --- | - No debouncing circuitry is necessary, just make sure that you solder the wires to contacts correctly. I have found it necessary to add additional hookup wire so that I can mount the switch where I wanted to. Make sure that you solder the joints in wire (don't just twist them together) and use heat-shrink tubing instead of regular insulating tape. This is because the tape tends to unwrap when it gets too warm. You can strip some insulation off one of the black ground wires on the same connector and solder the ground wire from the switch to it. You will have to use tape in this case. I have simply used a wire with a connector at the other end and just mounted it to the motherboard where the screws were holding it (that is how my mother board is mounted). A trip to a local RADIO SHACK or to your scrap box will provide all necessary parts for this project. I have had no trouble at all resetting my system with this switch and I NEVER run the SHIPDISK type of a program either!!!
