[net.micro.pc] Hewlett Packard Laser Jet

I would appreciate hearing from anyone who is using WordPerfect
version 4.1 with the Hewlett Packard Laser Jet Plus printer. In
particular, I need information on the proper procedures for sending
printer escape codes (Comnd:<27> etc.) to the Laser Jet.

By imbedding escape codes within a document, I have been able to shift
the character pitch from 10 to 16.6 and back again to 10. However, I
have not been able to select a font cartridge or change the stroke
weight without sending an ESC E which of course resets the printer and
ejects a page.

Would also like to hear about other word processors on the Laser Jet.

Microsoft Word provides support for many of the plug-in font cartridges
for the Laserjet. It is not necessary to embed escape codes, you just
format your text (select a font, size, and style) according to the
cartridge you have selected. The escape sequences to change the type are
generated when you print out your text.

We have some people here in Tulsa that have 9 PC's and 5 LJet's with
Word Perfect v4.1 and we called SSI and got (downloaded) a new set of
drivers for the LaserJet with support for *all* (It says so but I haven't
tried them all) of the current cartridges and some new sheet feeders
in January. So far everything is fine (the Zyad multi-bin feeders
had the flu for a while but all seems to be ok now). With the minor
exception of setting up a strange bin configuration for the Ziyad
we are pleased. I still like MS Word better for power-text type stuff,
but WP is easier to learn. I must confess that I prefer Alt-Key
combinations to function key abuse. However that is just my preference.

		Enjoy
