Back in the old days of CP/M-80, we had what was known as an I/O byte. This byte showed where we were directing the output to the printer, console, tape reader, tape sender, etc. I assume that MS-DOS has somewhat the same thing when using the MODE programme to change the PRN device to say a COM port. What does MODE change? How do I inquire DOS to find out where things are going? I have found the place where DOS has the port addresses for the par/ser printer ports, but haven't figured out where it keeps the info on which one is the active on. Any takers? Tim Pozar C.E.
