[gobble gobble gobble] I have just finished looking at the April 15th issue of PC-MAGAZINE and inside the magazine was a demanstration disk for a word processing package. The package is a protected version of PC-WRITE. I think it sold for around 90 to 100 dollars. Is the shareware version not going to be distributed anymore? Did they buy the rights to all future enhancements??? What is the status of PC-WRITE??? michael a. shiels

I've been using version 2.55, which was released last June, and yesterday I received an advertising postcard that announced version 2.6. The prices on the card were the same as before: $10 for the program and $75 for registration. Considering the history of PC-WRITE, I doubt that any sudden changes like copy protection and high prices would be forthcoming, and I'm sure they would not be well received by myriad PC-WRITE fans. -- John Miller (ecsvax!phco) Dept. of Pharmacology, Univ. of N.C.-Chapel Hill Chapel Hill, NC 27514 (919) 966-4628

]:[ yeah, i too was surprised to see how closely the "brown bag" editor was to pc-write. some of the "brown bag's" installation files (for the printer, etc.) are even the same size and date as pc-write's!! i'm sure there's been a law suit filed by now... as confirmed by a telephone call to quicksoft, the authors of pc-write, they are on schedule to release version 2.6 "around the first of april." -- .^. michael regoli /|\ ...ihnp4!inuxc!isrnix!mr '|!|` <mr@isrnix.UUCP>

> i'm sure there's been a law suit filed by now... > I doubt it. I explored the "brown bag" disk with my "strings" program (since posted to net.sources) and found evidence that Wallace had licensed this version of PC-Write to the brown baggers. And it isn't just similar -- it *is* PC Write. -- Ed Nather Astronomy Dept, U of Texas @ Austin {allegra,ihnp4}!{noao,ut-sally}!utastro!nather nather@astro.AS.UTEXAS.EDU
