[net.micro.pc] MS DOS crashes on random keyboa

Doing a screen dump on an IBM PC without a printer does NOT hang the
system. It will timeout after about 30 seconds (or so) and then
continue. If you do this (Shift_PrtSc, printer off), you'll notice
that after awhile the cursor will go to the upper left corner of the
screen for a bit while the PrtSc routine apparently decides the
printer is not there. A short time later you will again have system
control.

You don't have to reboot in this situation. Just be patient.

It does hang the system if your printer is Serial because the computer is
waiting (forever) for the printer to tell it that it is ready to receive.
