[net.micro.pc] DOS 3.2

u0n@PSUVM (04/30/86)

I have been having a problem with DOS 3.2 and I was wondering if anyone
else out there has had the same problem. The first problem I have
had is the FATAL SYSTEM ERROR that was documented in PC Week. That
has only happened to me once.

The other problem I have had is when I was in DOS I tried to do a
DIR. DOS told me that I had a bad FAT table. I switch disks and
guess what, it too had a bad FAT table. I rebooted my system
and everything was fine. This happened to me again about a week
latter on a different machine. This concerns me because of the
potential problem with people who have a hard disk.

I was using a PC Portable (not convertible), 2 5 1/4" floppys,
IBM 3278/9 Emulator card, 256K memory and 3 1/2" floppy.
When my error happened I was not running the control program
or any other resident utility. Just plain DOS.

I also was working on an IBM PC with 2 5 1/4" floppys and
640K. I was not running any resident programs.

Well if anyone else has had this last problem please let me
know. Or if anyone else has had any problems with DOS 3.2
send me a note.

              Thank You,

              John

Until you install the fix that IBM has documented for the FATAL SYSTEM ERROR
problem, you are likely to have various unexplicable symptoms. The fix
involves the STACK(S?) command, I think, but since I don't have DOS 3.2,
I really don't remember the fix itself.
