[net.micro.pc] Memory addressing problem on PC-1

jjm@pecnos.UUCP (Jim Moseman) (04/30/86)

I have and older IBM PC with a 64K motherboard. I have added more memory
with a multifunction card but I can only address 544K. The switch settings
for 640K don't work (and weren't documented in my original Operations
Guide). Does anyone know a way around this?

I had the same problem. The bug is in the ROM BIOS. Fixed it by ordering
the ROM BIOS UPGRADE KIT from the local IBM Product Service Center. It
cost about $30.

I also have an antique PC-1. You need to replace the ROM BIOS on the
motherboard. IBM sells it on an exchange basis for $50. This also makes
it capable of booting from a hard disk directly.
