[net.micro.pc] Mail-order horror: PC Network Part II :WOLFF Electronics

>(the line eater musta ate my stuff)

I bought the folowing from Wolff : A Hercules Compatible Mono card,
a TTL monitor, and a Floppy Controller with cables. I received the monitor
fine (but it was out of adjust) the disck controller was minus cables and
any form of documentation, and instead of a Herc Mono, I got an IBM compatible
*color* card. Mind you, BM compatible is a step down in my book, and watching
my output by running it through my VCR to my color TV was a drag. It took 1/2
worth of phone calls to get them to agree to send me cables, schematics for
the card, and my Mono card. (long distance calls to Texas, need I add) I
finally got the material (minus any form of documentation) and got the whole
system running by careful guesswork on the jumpers for the drives. I then
discover that the (highly useful) software to enable the graphics card was
not included. After more phone calls, I received a BASIC program that will
not seem to run with my DOS version, and an obvious ripoff of the Herc.
manual. (any Herc. Lawyers out there ?) Of course, since I don't have BASIC
in ROM on my system, I have to do all the work myself after all.
When I called back to tell them what I thought of them the tech guy (we're
on a first name basis by now) finally said I was out of luck, but I can return
the stuff and be credited (-20% restock, -20% handling)

Moral of the story ? I suggest you stay the hell away from these guys,
they sell ripoff compatibles and provide less support than a paper jockstrap.

also, if anyone's thinking about it, ARC TurboX 8MHZ motherboards crash from
parity errors every 15 minutes. Several I have seen do this.
