Hello, out there in the net land. This is what my problem is: I would like a 10MHz IBM PC/AT with 20 MB Hard disk, one 1.2 Mb floppy, one 360K floppy, a tape back-up system, a color monitor, a good multi-function card, a 1200 baud modem and all the necessary interfaces and lots of software, but unfortunately I can only afford the modem. Actually, I would probably be able to afford a bit more, but I would rather not spend the 6,000.00 that the IBM people would want me to spend on the system. I looked into some of the compatibles, but the 99% rather than 100% compatibility really scares me. Is 99% enough? What will not work? Of course, the prices are really attracive, but the old phrase 'you get what you pay for' is a big turn off. Is there a list of price/quality ratios for the PC, compatibles and other hardware? Is there anybody who can relate (from personal expreience, not a magazine article) some information on particular PC configuration? (I mean like IBM box, Sugart hard drive, etc...). Basically I'm interested in the best price/quality ratio.
