I would appreciate hearing from anyone with any opinions as to the relative merits of 3-Com's 3-Servers vs fast AT compatibles as file servers on PC networks. Possible combos for the AT in the comparison might be the Sperry IT with the voice-coil (25 millisecond) disk available outside Sperry for around $3000, or one of the popular Taiwanese clones running at 10 mhz with one of the popular Seagate 38 mscnd disks. Another useful piece of info would be whether such a comparison would even be meaningful i.e. could it be that under normal conditions for small LANs, traffic on the LAN would be a limiting factor before any difference in the two servers would be felt?
