[net.micro.pc] Underlining on Compaq Display

			Underlining on Compaq Display

Some of our PC users that have Compaqs (Deskpro, Portable or Portable II)
noticed that on-screen underlining doesn't work. This is a hassle for
wordprocessing in particular.

It turns out that the normal mode for Compaqs (Deskpro, Portable, etc.)
is for the video attribute "underline" to be interpreted as "low intensity"
instead. (Compaq thinks of this as a feature, not a bug...)

So there are a couple of ways to get around this. WordPerfect 4.1 has an
option to display underlined text in reverse video on the screen:
	Select "SCREEN" (Ctrl-F3)
	Select "colors" (4)
	Select "underline as reverse" (8)

The Compaq "feature" itself is also under software control: you can change
the mode of the video display so it really underlines. That is, if you
can get hold of a copy of Compaq DOS 2.x. Here's the command:
	> MODE UND=ON
Compaq DOS 3.x MODE command doesn't understand UND=ON.

(Thanks to the helpful Tech Support staff at SSI/WordPerfect Corp for
this one!)
