[net.micro.pc] Access to color graphics and mice from PC/UNIX systems

abs@nbc1.UUCP (Andrew Siegel) (06/26/86)

I'm curious as to how one would access the features of, say, an
Enhanced Graphics Adapter or a mouse from a PC-based UNIX or
UNIX-like operating system such as Xenix, Coherent, Venix, etc.
What I'm looking for is just a summary of the programming
model for these devices, and an idea of how well integrated they
are into the system.

We want to use a PC as a control terminal, using color graphics
and a mouse for interaction, but we would prefer to avoid MS-DOS
and instead use UNIX. I'm concerned that any PC implementation
of UNIX may have weak or non-existent access to add-on features
of the PC.

Please respond by mail. I will summarize and post results.
Thanks.
