[net.micro.pc] Need pinouts for IBM PC[AT] serial/parallel

madd@bucsb.bu.edu.UUCP (Jim Frost) (09/19/86)

[May the line eater have a SECTOR NOT FOUND]

Could someone mail me the pinouts for:

IBM PC or PC/AT COM1: (DB9 type) serial port
Parallel port (not Centronics, but the DB25 style)

I had though I had the correct pinout chart for the serial card, but
apparently not, since we could not make a printer operate. It ran a
Hayes modem (2400) with no problems using a cable supplied by the
dealer.

Thanx in advance.

Here are the pin-outs for the serial (db-9) connector and how they should
be connected for use with a modem. I can't find the pin-out for parallel
(its' here some place!). If you don't get it send me mail and I'll find
the info.

	db-9	name	db-25
	1	cd	8
	2	td	3
	3	rd	2
	4	dtr	20
	5	sg	7
	6	dsr	6
	7	rts	4
	8	cts	5
	9	ri	22

Yes, 2 and 3 do get reverced for a non-nul modem cable. I hope I got
all the numbers right (they do match what I have).

### Hi line eater ###

Here's what I've been using for the AT-compatible 9 pin
connector. By the way, the arrangment seems to be the
same as the 9 pin connectors on newer DEC terminals. This
message is uploading through an RS232 line from an AT.

Pin Name Function Direction
--- ---- -------- ---------
1	CD	Carrier Detect	From modem to computer
2	RxD	Received Data	From modem to computer
3	TxD	Transmit Data	From computer to modem
4	DTR	Data Term Ready	From computer to modem
5	Gnd	Ground mutual signal return line
6	DSR	Data Set Ready	From modem to computer
7	RTS	Ready To Send	From computer to modem
8	CTS	Clear To Send	From modem to computer
9	RI	Ring Indicator	From modem to computer

Depending on the applications program that you are using, you
will need to connect various numbers of these pins to the
device to which you want to talk. I'm using "Mirror" which lets me
get away with only using 2, 3, and 5.
