A couple of weeks ago I had posted a request for a public domain terminal emulator for the tektronix 4010 or 4107. I had many queries from other users who also needed the same thing. So here is a brief update. There are (at least) two public domain terminal emulators out there - 1) Tekterm and 2) QKKERMIT. Also, Disk #441 of the PC-SIG library is a tektronix terminal emulator (I'm not sure what this library is or how to access it). I have not been able to obtain any of these from anyone....... IF ANYONE ON THE NET HAS ANY OF THESE, CAN YOU KINDLY POST IT TO net.sources ? There are enough people out there to warrant a posting.... As far as commercial software is concerned, one net user reports that PC-PLOT III works relatively good ($95, Micro-plot systems, Westerville, Ohio (614) 882-4786). Other commercial software include TGRAF05/07 ($495/995, Grafpoint, (408)-249-7951), V-TERM/4010 ($249, Coefficient, (212)-777-6707), SMARTERM 4014 ($225, PERSOFT, (608)-273-6000), EMU-TEK ($395/495, FTG, (714)-995-3900). Above information is what I gathered and does conclude or limit the list of software or organizations producing software. I do not recommend any one in particular. Prices are approximate and may have changed. All views expressed are my own and not that of my organization. All disclaimers apply. Venu P. Gopal, ihnp4!ihuxk!vg55611, (312)-979-1629

I have used PC-PLOT III, TGRAF05, TGRAF07, EMUTEK, Queens TEK emulator, and the SAS institutes 4105 emulator. PCPLOT III does everhthing it claims to do and is EXCELLENT value for the money. TGRAF 07 is one real nice program. It works well, the keyboard layout is not bad, the graphics are great. It costs a LOT. Probably the best but sure the most $$$. TGRAF 05 wasn't as nice even on the same hardware but is cheaper. EMUTEK is going to have to do something real amazing to get back in my good books. We ordered a number of copies. They have an excellent educational discount program. Their printed matter in April said EMUTEK level 3 was available immediately. In September when it came we got a bunch of Level 2 and some prototypes of level 3. The documentation was a prototype too. (Capter 3: This chapter when complete will... NEXT PAGE Chapter 4: This chapter when complete will... etc) I could not find a keyboard layout diagram. I consider myself pretty good at this stuff. I spent hours trying to get it to word reasonably. I DO NOT recommand this. Queens University is good value since it is free. It only worked with the CGA and the resolution was limited. It had some problems but it is in turbo pascal and can be hacked. SAS 4105 emulator called RTERM is mediocre. It does PARTIAL 4105 emulation on a CGA and an APA (all points addressable like in 3270 pc) and really only works well with SAS and their PCSTDM device driver. Not sure whether we are going to carry this. All I really wanted was a cheap and dirty COLOR graphics emulator for a PC. (Note that PCPLOT III can do partial 4027 for color but since it is only partial only some software will work. SAS will not drive the partial 4027 very well.) t.jones 416-978-4924 P.S. Vendors of any software that will do a good COlro graphics terminal emulation are welcome to call.
