I'm trying to get an old 5 Meg hard disk running on my PC. The players: Zenith Z-150 IBM (Xebec, but without Xebec ROM) hard disk controller Zenith MS-DOS 2.0 Seagate ST-506 For a while, I thought I actually had things going since the Zenith Prep utility will talk correctly to the IBM controller. The problem is that Prep thinks the ST-506 has 304 tracks, when it really has only 153. This really doesn't work considering that the badspot information (the drive does have some) is stored on the last track. So, my question is does anyone know of a low level format program that will work with the above controller/drive combination? I have a PC with a western digital controller at work, so if that controller ROM can format a 5 Meg drive, I'd be willing to take it apart to do the formatting. Please refrain from telling me to just get a larger drive. The 5 Meg was something that I just had lying around and wanted to put to use (read free). It might not be much, but it's a lot better than a floppy. -- /Dave Edick/ {hplabs,ihnp4}!qantel!dosadi!root "I come in peace, take me to your lizard"
