Has anyone had any experience with the MS-DOS program FLICKERFREE? This is a resident package that rewrites the video BIOS in ram for blinding speed. It is also supposed to eliminate the flicker associated with scrolling on color monitors and allows you to change the foreground and background colors of DOS. The flicker and color benefits are of little value to me since I use a monochrome monitor. The publishers of FLICKERFREE make the claim of 200% - 1500% video speed increase. I am sure that this would give some breathtakingly fast directory listings and file listings, but is the overall working speed of the system improved to any great extent? I almost ordered a copy (for $39 it seems pretty reasonable) but reconsidered when I couldn't think of more than a handful of applications that are display-bound. Maybe I am underestimating the time I spend TYPE-ing files and doing DIR-ectories. I would appreciate any recommendations or feedback on the matter. If you have never heard of such a product, the address of the publisher is Gibson Research 9 Lago Sud Irvin, Ca. 92715 714-854-1520 Also see their ad in the back pages of InfoWorld.
