[net.micro.pc] PC LARN 12 available

kneller@ucsfcgl.UUCP (Don Kneller%Langridge) (10/30/86)

Larn is a dungeon type game program. It is a adventure/action game similar
in concept to rogue or hack, but with a much different feel. It is
copyrighted 1986 by Noah Morgan (panda!condor!noah) at GenRad Inc. Bolton MA

Recently uploaded to ARPANET host NOSC-COD is an executable and sources
for an MSDOS version of LARN. The features of this MSDOS port are:

	- runs in 256K of memory with MSDOS 2.x by using disk caching
to keep only the most recent levels in memory. A swap file
is used to store old levels. You can use your RAMdisk to
	  hold the swap file.
	- needs 1 360K floppy drive (although 2 are preferred).
	- allows graphics characters for the caves.
	- shows where you've been in the caves by marking the floor with
a dot or user defined symbol.
	- runs on the DEC Rainbow (including the graphics).
	- uses ANSI.SYS (or preferable NANSI.SYS, which is included in
the distribution) and termcap, so is configurable to color
monitors. The terminal is put into raw mode for faster drawing.
	- allows use of the arrow keys for motion input.

The executable and support files are in LARN12.ARC (about 150K);
sources and support files are in LARN12SRC.ARC (about 280K). This is
*not* the same set of sources a recent diff was posted for. These
include enhancements specific to the MSDOS environment.

The files are available by anonymous ftp from host NOSC-COD.ARPA, in
directory pub/hack. Remember that ARC files are binary files and must
be transferred with a binary protocol. Usually you use the "tenex"
mode of ftp to get it to your host, then the "-i" flag of kermit to use
image mode to get it to your PC.

For people without ARPANET connections I will mail them a copy of these
files if they send me 1 (or 2 if sources are desired also) *formatted* DSDD
floppy disk, or 1 *formatted* DSQD disk with a self-addressed return mailer
and sufficient return postage to:
