A friend recently bought a Leading Edge Model D computer, and I became her (unpaid) computer consultant. She is very happy with it, but would like to run programs written for the CGA. Unfortunately, her student budget was taxed nearly to its limits, and can't accomidate a color monitor. PHEWW! OK HERE'S THE QUESTION: Is there such a thing as a CGA board that spits out TTL signals compatible with a monochrome monitor? If so which ones? Please mail responses. thanks. ed windes (...ihnp4!ihopa!edw)

There are a number of video boards that will emulate CGA on a mono screen. We have used ATI Graphics Solution quite successfully here. It does a lot more than emulate CGA. It will drive TTL mono, RGB, Composite, and also emulate a Herc Graphics card. Good hunting... Oh... they also have out an EGA solution that does all the above plus EGA... tj

Actually, the IBM CGA works fine with a monochrome monitor. You just can't use the IBM monochrome monitor. There are others that can be made to work with just a special cable.
