[net.startrek] The Motion Picture on free TV

According to the television advertisements on TV for the new season
beginning this fall, "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" will be on
ABC (I think) sometime this coming season. I have no details, but
I'm sure if we keep watching out for details, we'll find some (maybe
in the TV GUIDE Fall Preview?). The best part of it is they will not
be able to cut it or redub it because of "questionable material" as is
(oops! READ: it is) a G-rated picture. While it is not a great
film (even the most ardent Trek fan has to admit there are many flaws,
particularly with the story and editing) it did not demean Star Trek
and for that reason I now have an excuse to get a color TV.

The television networks ruthlessly butcher theater-movies regardless
of their rating. Even the lowliest G movie will get severely cut to fit
a particular time-slot. I don't hold out any hope for STTMP. Of course,
it has been on HBO, STAR, etc. and other pay-TV channels for months.
(I thought the movie was awful.)
