[net.startrek] Enterprise uniforms

Does anyone know the significance of the color of the uniforms worn 
by the crew of the Enterprise? On the TV series the shirts and dresses
were gold, blue, or red. What about the ST movies - was there any
rank or classification associated with those uniforms?

In the TV show, gold was command, blue was sciences, and red was
engineering and support services (right from the technical manual)
Each color also had its own insignia (the thing over the left
breast).

The meanings of the colors are:

	Gold (actually tenne): Command
	Blue:		Sciences
	Red:		Engineering/Other (such as communications)

This is all according to the Star Fleet Technichal Manual,
by Franz Joseph. The manual is so realistic, the publisher
isn't even mentioned. If you're a trekkie, YOU NEED THIS BOOK!!!!
