[net.startrek] labeled switches

tiberio (02/17/83)

do you remember the episode when kirk was accused of ejecting some pod
with the records officer still in it during a yellow alert. during the
trial they zoom in on his console and there in full color was a button
labeled eject pod or such.

karn (02/17/83)

Yes, the episode in question was "Court Martial". The issue at hand
was whether Kirk ordered a red alert before jettisoning the pod.

That rare exception to the general rule of unlabelled switches didn't
help that episode's credibility much. This was also the episode with
the famous "one to the fourth power" gaff.

Why is it that Star Trek is never featured on TV after 10pm?
I think with all of the fans out there, it would be great for
the ratings. What do you say?

The usual buchered syndication prints of Star Trek are shown daily
at 12:30AM on WNEW-TV, Channel 11 in New York. What disgusts me is that
the same scenes have been chopped as in the prints shown on Channel 32
back in Chicago. For example, I haven't seen that great sequence at the
beginning of The Menagerie, Part II, in which they use a phaser cannon
to blast into the Talosians' elevator, in many years.

If you're into butchered syndication prints, you might check out
the VHS video tapes of eight Star Trek episodes. The advertising
copy claims that each episode is fifty minutes long. (Doesn't
prime-time television contains fifty-two minutes of programming
per hour?)

While we are mentioning butchered StarTreks I think we should note that
most recent versions cut out the famous Fyzbyn scene!

Here in Champaign, Star Trek is shown at 10:30pm Sundays. Come to think of
it, I'm missing it now.
