This past night, watching "Mirror, Mirror" on channel 5 in THE DISTRICT, (Washington D.C. to you out-of-towners), I heard a familiar phrase: "Damnit Jim, I'm a Doctor, not an engineer." I thought it might be interesting to collect all the things that Dr. McCoy isn't. Specifically what other things can you (from the tv shows) fill in the above phrase with. I leave you with one of my favorites: "Damnit Jim, I'm a Doctor, not a bricklayer" ( The Devil in the Dark) Lets see some replies! OZ HAS SPOKEN rlgvax!oz

Here's my list of "occupational disclaimers" from the good doctor: "I'm a surgeon, not a psychiatrist" (City on the Edge of Forever) "What am I, a doctor or a moonshuttle conductor?" (Corbomite Maneuver) "I'm a doctor, not a mechanic" (Doomsday Machine) "I'm a physician. I will not peddle flesh" (Return to Tomorrow) "I'm no magician, Spock, just an old country doctor" (Deadly Years) "I'm a doctor, not an escalator" (Friday's Child) (there are others, but I don't recall them now) Dave Ellis Bell Labs, Piscataway ...harpo!npoiv!npois!houxm!5941ux!dje

How about: "I'm a doctor, not a brick layer." (Patching the Horta in Devil in the Dark) Ralph.
