I was noticing that business about the wrong middle initial too, as I had
posted a comment about that episode eairlier, so I went back and got out
my Fotonovel(tm) of that episode, and definitely the gravestone does say
James R. Kirk! They probably forgot about that gravestone before the later
episodes were filmed.
