For those of you who have been asking, Star Fleet Battles is
a boardgame that simulates ship to ship combat in an
expanded Star Trek universe (called the Star Fleet
universe). Also available are an operational level game
called Federation Space (useful for setting up SFB
scenarios), three Star Fleet Battles expansion kits that
expand and clarify the game, and a magazine called NEXUS
that features a regular section on SFB. Check out your
local hobby or game store, or contact Task Force Games in
Amarillo, TX.

Since I have had a number of requests for this information via mail, I am posting it to the net. Star Fleet Battles is a game of Star Ship combat in an expanded Star Trek universe. Players allocate energy to the various systems on their ships, (shields, sensors, weapons, tractors, transporters, etc.), move them over a hex grid map board, and fire at each other using dice and probability tables. Races represented include the Federation, Klingons, Romulans, Gorns, Tholians Andromedans, and Orion Pirates from the original T.V. series, the Kzinti from the animated series, and several new races created specifically for the game, including the Hydrans, Lyrans, WYN, and ISC. The game is supported by an operational level game called Federation Space (soon to be replaced by Federation and Empire), three expansion kits, one supplement, two magazines: Nexus and StarFleet Battles Captain's Log, and a newsletter called StarLetter. A new cross referenced version of the rules should be available this summer. The game is available from Task Force Games or: The Amarillo Design Bureau Box 3012 Amarillo, Texas 79106 Tell them you heard about it from the head of playtest group 231B.
